Community

600Caroling-1For the past two years, the Sierra Ridge Academy students expressed their fond wishes and holiday cheer to the San Andreas community by singing Christmas carols.  But the event, Caroling for Cans, was about more than just singing. This community event raises awareness and donations for the Calaveras County Food Bank.  As the students sang from door-to-door, they collected canned food donations for this worthwhile organization. Located in San Andreas, the food bank is a staple to the community and is directed by Sierra Ridge Community Advisory Board member, Jeannie Hayward.

With the needs for donations rising during the holiday season, the efforts of the Sierra Ridge students were appreciated by the community as they worked with other volunteers collecting hundreds of cans. In turn, the students learned about the needs of their town and a positive way that they could work to meet those needs.
